Frameless Shower Doors in South Florida

A frameless shower door is heavy tempered glass held by hinges, clips and a handle, with no metal frame around the panels. It gives the open, bright look most people want in a remodeled bathroom, and there are fewer metal channels to trap soap scum.
What to expect
- Glass is usually 3/8" or 1/2" thick (HomeGuide, "How Much Does It Cost to Install a Shower Door? (2026)"). See the glass types guide.
- Panels are custom-measured after tile is finished. HomeGuide says fabrication takes about 2–7 days after measuring, and installation itself 1–4 hours (HomeGuide, "How Much Does It Cost to Install a Shower Door? (2026)").
- Walls need solid backing behind the hinges because the glass is heavy. Angi notes frameless panels can weigh 80 lbs or more (Angi, "Pros and Cons of Frameless Shower Doors").
Cost
HomeGuide lists frameless doors at $600–$1,900 installed, with a $1,200 national average from member-reported projects (HomeGuide, "How Much Does It Cost to Install a Shower Door? (2026)"). Angi's frameless guide puts the typical spend at $1,000–$2,500 (Angi, "How Much Does a Frameless Shower Door Cost to Install? [2026 Data]"). More on our cost guide.
Safety glazing: glass in shower and tub enclosures is a "hazardous location" under the Florida Building Code, Residential, so it must be safety glazing, which for shower doors almost always means tempered glass (2023 Florida Building Code, Residential (8th ed.), Section R308.4.5 Glazing and wet surfaces; Florida Building Commission, Analysis of Changes, 8th Edition (2023) FBC-Residential). Federal rules in 16 CFR Part 1201, Safety Standard for Architectural Glazing Materials (eCFR) cover safety glazing used in shower and bathtub doors and enclosures. Look for the permanent tempered-glass mark (the "bug") in a corner of each panel.
