Sliding & Bypass Shower Doors in South Florida

Sliding or bypass doors run on a track, so they don't need swing room. That makes them common on tub-showers and in smaller condo bathrooms. Modern frameless sliders use an exposed roller bar on top of heavy glass instead of a full metal frame.
Things to ask
- Is the bottom guide floor-mounted or is there a full track? Full tracks collect water and grime.
- What are the rollers made of, and are replacement rollers available?
- Stainless or coated hardware is worth asking about near the coast, where salt air is harder on metal.
Cost
HomeGuide's door-only bypass prices are $250–$780 framed, $350–$1,100 semi-frameless and $450–$1,450 frameless, plus $150–$600 labor (HomeGuide, "How Much Does It Cost to Install a Shower Door? (2026)"). Angi lists sliding/bypass at $700–$2,000 (Angi, "How Much Does Shower Door Installation Cost? [2026 Data]").
Safety glazing: glass in shower and tub enclosures is a "hazardous location" under the Florida Building Code, Residential, so it must be safety glazing, which for shower doors almost always means tempered glass (2023 Florida Building Code, Residential (8th ed.), Section R308.4.5 Glazing and wet surfaces; Florida Building Commission, Analysis of Changes, 8th Edition (2023) FBC-Residential). Federal rules in 16 CFR Part 1201, Safety Standard for Architectural Glazing Materials (eCFR) cover safety glazing used in shower and bathtub doors and enclosures. Look for the permanent tempered-glass mark (the "bug") in a corner of each panel.
